current repair list pt 3
Well, there is no shortage of humbling repairs here and thought I’d share my list. My current fix list : All this is compounded by having to order from Amazon and sent to my host’s home 10 miles away, much slower than I am used to. Figured while I am at it I may as…

Outside port for 12 volt
The electric cooler is great, but kept inside the trailer takes up space and fights for cooling when set near the furnace. So I put it outside, split the 12 volt into two and now power the starlink and fridge outside where it is cool and barely needs power to run. Thanks to Reliable Home…

Thermostat, water, sudden death
No end to “lessons learned” with the 1984 Scamp. After replacing the rusty original analog thermostat with a fancy digital unit three days ago, it suddenly went blank (no power, no heat). Pulled the faceplate off and water dribbled out! I freaked out as it happened to have been raining last night, and right now.…

The trip has begun
It has been awhile since I have had the time and good internet to report on my travels, and even still my internet is sketchy. The wonderful thing about the Washington forest is the huge trees covering the sky with lush greenery…it’s also why starlink can’t give me reliable signal up or down. I am…

In the July 5th edition of The Wall Street Journal, journalist Katie Deighton shared her gloriously chaotic rendezvous with a 25-foot rental RV and her band of brave comrades. Somewhere between dodging low tree branches and wrangling sewer hoses (a rite of passage, really), she rekindled a spark—that long-lost grit from her pre-luxury-lifestyle days. Turns out,…

Work desk via bunk bed
Getting Scamp ready for its inaugural trip meant that not only should I be ready to hit the open road, but to be able to do online work once I have sorted my campsite. I realized that the dining table/sleep area isn’t really a place to setup the imac, multiple external drives, keyboard, and mouse.…

Changing directions, that painful lump
Well, without the benefit of knowledge and experience, my purchase of the Scamp has been a truly “Ohhhhhhhhhhhh……” kind of deal. Like, just because it looks good and functions at the point of sale does not mean it will function once you drive off into the sunset. Missed malfunctioning trailer brakes: wasn’t able to test…
